Field notes
CapCut's teleprompter on a Mac: where it is, and what to use instead.
If you have been clicking around CapCut for Mac looking for the teleprompter, you have not missed it. It is not there. Here is where it lives, and how to get the same result with the Mac you are sitting at.
Why the Mac app does not have it
CapCut Desktop is an editor. It works on footage you have already shot, and CapCut says it has no camera input to put a teleprompter over. The teleprompter belongs to the phone app's recording screen, where it scrolls your script over the selfie camera while you film. CapCut Web can record from a webcam, but without a script overlay.
Way one: film on your phone, edit on your Mac
If your video is going to TikTok, Reels or Shorts anyway, this is the simplest route. Record in the CapCut phone app with its teleprompter, AirDrop the clip to your Mac, and edit in CapCut Desktop. Your eyes stay close to the phone's front camera, which is what a phone teleprompter is for.
Way two: film on your Mac with a teleprompter by the lens
If you want to record at your desk, with your Mac's camera or a webcam, use a Mac teleprompter while you record, then bring the file into CapCut Desktop to edit.
- Open Tellie and paste your script. It sits in the MacBook notch, right beside the camera.
- Record with QuickTime Player, Photo Booth, OBS or Loom. Tellie is hidden from screen capture, so if you are recording your screen too, the script never appears in the video.
- Import the recording into CapCut Desktop and edit as usual.
With Tellie Pro, the script also follows your voice, so you can pause, restart a sentence or riff for a moment and it keeps your place. Every download includes Pro free for 10 days.
Which one fits
Vertical clip for social, filmed handheld: the CapCut phone app. Talking-head video, tutorial or course lesson recorded at your desk: a Mac teleprompter, then CapCut Desktop for the edit. Plenty of creators use both, depending on the day.
