TellieFree teleprompter for Mac
A free teleprompter for Mac that stays out of sight.
Tellie is free to download and free to keep. Your script sits right under the camera, nobody on the call can see it, and there is no account to make or trial clock running out on the basics.
What you get for free, for good
The free version of Tellie is a complete teleprompter, not a demo. It does not expire and it never asks for a card.
- Your script right by the camera. Tellie hangs from the MacBook notch, the closest spot on the screen to your lens, so your eyes stay on your audience.
- Hidden from every call and recording. Zoom, Teams, Meet, FaceTime, QuickTime and OBS see your face, never your script.
- Auto-scroll at your speed, plus mirror mode, opacity and font size controls.
- Open the files you already have: Word, PDF, Pages, RTF, Markdown or plain text, with headings turned into sections you can jump between.
- Paste and go. Copy text anywhere and send it straight to the notch.
- Free updates for life.
On a Mac without a notch (an iMac, a Mac mini with a monitor, an older MacBook), Tellie sits at the top center of the screen, right where a notch would be.
How to start in a minute
- Download Tellie and drag it to Applications.
- Open it. It lives in the menu bar, not the Dock.
- Copy your script and paste it in, or open a Word, PDF or Pages file.
- Press play and talk to the camera.
How the free options compare
"Free teleprompter" means very different things depending on where you look. Here is what each one gives you without paying, as published by each maker.
| App | What is free | Hidden on screen share | Paid upgrade |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tellie | The full teleprompter, for good, on Apple silicon Macs | Yes | $29 once |
| CuePrompter | A teleprompter in your browser, no signup | No claim found | None |
| Teleprompter Pro+ | A free tier of a Mac app | No claim found | $59.99/yr or $159.99 once |
| Teleprompter.com | The Starter tier | No claim found | Pro from $19.99/mo |
| BIGVU | Videos up to 9 minutes, 720p with a watermark | No claim found | From $12/mo |
| Textream | Open source, follows your words (macOS 15+) | Optional | None |
Each row checked on the maker's own site or App Store page in the first week of October 2026.
When is Pro worth it?
Free Tellie scrolls at a speed you set. That suits a steady read. If you pause, take a question, or riff for a minute, you will want the script to wait for you. That is what Pro adds.
- Voice Follow listens to the words you say, on your Mac, in more than 40 languages. Pause and it waits. Skip ahead and it finds you.
- Stagehand checks off the points you mark as you make them, in your own words, and gives you a quiet heads-up while there is still time.
- Presenter Magic puts your Keynote speaker notes in the notch, a slide at a time.
Every download includes all of Pro free for 10 days, so you can try it on a real call before deciding. After that it is $29 once for up to 3 Macs, with no subscription. If you never upgrade, Tellie stays a free teleprompter. See everything in Pro.
About free Tellie
Is Tellie really free?
Yes. Tellie is free to download and the basic teleprompter is free for good: auto-scroll, mirror, font and opacity controls, Word, PDF and Pages import, and invisibility on Zoom and recordings. Every download also includes all of Tellie Pro for 10 days. Pro is $29 once if you want to keep it.
Do I need an account or a credit card?
No. There is no account to create and no card to enter, for the free version or the 10 days of Pro.
Is there a free teleprompter for Mac that follows your voice?
Tellie Pro follows your voice and is free for the first 10 days of every download. Two open source apps, Textream and NotchPrompter, also follow your words for free on macOS 15 or later.
Will people on Zoom see my script?
No. Tellie is hidden from screen sharing, screen recording and screenshots by macOS itself, so Zoom, Teams, Meet and FaceTime never see it.
Does Tellie work on Intel Macs?
No. Tellie needs an Apple silicon Mac (M1 or later) running macOS 14 or later. It does not need a notch.
Your script, right by the camera. Free.
Download Tellie and read your next call or video without looking away. Pro is included for 10 days, no card.
