Companion and Take Coach leave beta, and cues Tellie won’t wait for

  • Companion and Take Coach are out of beta. Companion puts Tellie on your phone or tablet, to control your take from your hand or read it beside the lens. Take Coach opens a quiet drawer after each take: what landed, what didn't, and one suggestion for next time, saved on your Mac and never uploaded. It's optional, one switch in Settings. Both are part of Tellie Pro.
  • Cues Tellie won't wait for. Write a note to yourself like [pause], [smile] or [look at camera] on its own line or right inside a sentence. It shows as a quiet yellow note, and Voice Follow glides straight past it instead of waiting for you to say it (emoji cues like [📢 🐢] work too). Section headings work the same way.
  • Bold and italic, right in the prompter. Mark a word **bold**, *italic* or ***both*** and it shows that way on screen, and stays put while the orange glow follows your voice. Documents from Word, Pages and RTF keep their bold and italic too.
  • Counts only what you say. The word counter and the time left now count the words you'll actually speak, and skip your headings, cues and notes.
  • Smoother everywhere. Tab and the number keys land the glow on the first line of a section, ready to go. A link in your script reads as plain words. And Reset Window brings the drawer under the prompter back the moment the window settles.

1.6.2

Multi-monitor fixes, and it comes back the way you left it

  • Stays on the display you put it on. Plugging in a monitor or opening a closed MacBook no longer pulls the notch to another screen. Tellie also remembers whether you had it docked or floating, so clicking the notch brings it back exactly as you left it: same place, same size.
  • Opens where you last used it, so a MacBook without a notch no longer defaults to the external monitor.
  • Fixed the prompter being crushed to a thin strip by macOS window tiling or a drag between displays. It now restores your size on its own.
  • Fixed docking off-center after a resize, and the coaching chin briefly detaching on Reset Window and on re-dock.
  • On a narrow bar the close button stays put and the speed slider no longer overlaps it. Top speed is now 200. Check for Updates brings its window to the front.

1.6.1

Fixes for the microphone and the first take

  • Fixed a crash that could close Tellie when you turned the microphone on or off during a take.
  • Fixed Voice Follow sometimes not hearing you on the first take after launch.
  • Take Coach now stays off for new users until you turn it on, and it only appears after a take where Voice Follow was listening.

1.6.0

Liquid Glass, ready for macOS 27

  • Ready for macOS 27. The prompter is remade in the new Liquid Glass look: a soft glass bar that breathes with your voice, the light gliding word to word as you read.
  • A cleaner face. The control bar tucks the whole app menu under the Tellie icon in the middle, the menu itself is trimmed to what you actually reach for, and Tellie wears a brand new Liquid Glass app icon.
  • Your Take Coach, closer to the work. Your debrief now opens right from the notch, shows you the exact lines worth another pass, and lets you rehearse just that spot before your next run. Your takes are kept for 90 days. (Tellie Pro)
  • Presenter Mode, on every slide. In Keynote, your key phrases now check off on any slide, and longer speaker notes always show in full. (Tellie Pro)
  • Script is now Document. The wording matches how you actually use Tellie. Hold Command to reveal your recent documents in a flash.
  • Easier to resize. Grab either side edge to set the width. Plus a batch of reliability fixes under the hood.

1.5.4

Launch at login, and your key points in view

  • Launch at login. A new switch in Settings, under General, starts Tellie when you log in, with an optional Dock icon. Both off by default.
  • Keep your key points in view. When a section's key phrase scrolls past the top, the navigator now shows it, so you always know the line you came to land.
  • Companion, refined. Larger text fits more lines, and "Web Companion" is now simply Companion throughout.
1.5.3

Two fun new things, plus a fresh coat of paint

  • Web Companion (Pro, beta). Your phone, tablet, or laptop becomes a console for your take: a quick status glance, your key points ticking off, or the full prompter following every word you say. It runs on your own Wi-Fi and never leaves your devices.
  • Take Coach (Pro, beta). Finish a take and Tellie tells you how it went: a score, what landed, and the one thing to tweak next time. All on your Mac, never uploaded.
  • Settings got a glow-up. A brighter, reimagined sidebar, clearer permissions, and a shiny new About tab.
  • Updates that just show up. Auto-update is on by default now, and never barges in mid-take.

Oh, and a brand-new welcome tour to show it all off. Even the recording indicator got a fresh look: that little eye is now the Tellie wordmark, so you always know when you're visible on screen.

1.5.2

Sharper Key points, credited in your own words

  • Key points. Mark a thing you need to say, and Tellie credits it the moment you say it, in your own words, anywhere in your take.
  • Write the marks your way. A bare key:, an unfenced minutes:, a little extra spacing: Tellie reads them all, so a mark never silently does nothing.
  • Better listening. Numbers, contractions, homophones, hyphenated words, and smart quotes now match the way you actually say and type them.

Presenter Magic

  • Speaker notes open at the top after every slide change.
  • Clicking the mic hands focus cleanly back to Keynote.

Reading

  • Scripts now open right on your first line, ready to read.
1.5.1

Tellie has always listened to you. Now it understands you

  • New in 1.5: Stagehand won't let you forget the thing you came to say. Flag the points that matter and they tick themselves off as you say them. Nothing to memorize, nothing to check. Your script keeps score while you talk.
  • Enjoy the freedom to ad-lib with none of the fear of forgetting something important. Wander off script, tell each story differently, circle back when you feel like it. Hit your point in your own words and Tellie counts it.
  • Finish on time without watching the clock. If you start running out of room before something important, Tellie nudges you quietly while there is still time to cover everything.
  • See how it actually went. When you stop, Tellie debriefs you: your pace, where you paused longest, what you covered, and anything you skipped. The things you used to learn only by watching the whole recording back.
  • Ten days of Tellie Pro, on the house. This update switches everything on for Free users. No card, no sign-up, nothing to cancel, and after ten days you revert back to the same teleprompter you have now. Already a Pro? Pass it on, because anyone who downloads Tellie today gets what you discovered. Now the friend you have been telling about Tellie can finally give you the credit you deserve.

See it working, and how to set up your own Stagehand script, at tellieapp.com/pro.

Fixed in 1.5.1: sending a script to Tellie from the web could leave the prompter window a little shorter than you left it.

1.4.9

Voice Follow holds on in noisy rooms, and the notch remembers where you left it

  • Voice Follow keeps listening after a long pause. In a noisy room, taking a long break could quietly stop the tracking, and only scrolling the script (or turning mic on/off) brought it back. Tellie now notices when you pause and restarts listening on its own.
  • A nudge when the room is working against you. When background noise is detected getting in the way of tracking, Tellie suggests turning on macOS Voice Isolation, with a button that takes you straight to the setting. It only appears when noise is the actual problem. Note: Steve recommends keeping Voice Isolation on all the time.
  • "Scroll while talking" is more reliable. Speech detection now adapts to the room's background level, so the script no longer creeps during a quiet pause, and no longer stalls while you are still speaking.
  • Tellie remembers which display it was on. On a multi-monitor setup the notch used to return to your main screen on every relaunch. It now comes back where you left it, and falls back gracefully if that display is unplugged.
  • Smoother scrolling at large font sizes. Big fonts and long words made the text catch up in visible jumps. The motion is now evenly paced at any size.
  • The notch keeps its size. Changing displays or pressing Escape could leave the notch shrunken with its content clipped. Fixed.

1.4.8

A built-in dyslexia-friendly font, cleaner file opening, and snappier notch taps

  • OpenDyslexic is now built in. Choose OpenDyslexic in Appearance and it just works, no download and no install. A dyslexia-friendly typeface for reading your script, ready the moment you pick it.
  • Open RTF files cleanly. Opening a .rtf saved from TextEdit or Word now loads just your words, instead of the file's hidden formatting codes. Your script reads the way it should.
  • A clearer message for image-only documents. A Pages file made entirely of images or shapes, and a slide with no notes in Presenter Mode, now tells you there's no text to read instead of showing a puzzling "missing value" line.
  • Clickable rows respond on the first tap. When Tellie is in the background, tapping a link or a hand-off in the notch now fires right away, with no second click needed.
Inspired byRRana Munadreported the RTF bug that led to this fix
1.4.7

Smoother scrolling when you resize

  • Resize while you read. Resizing the prompter window or changing the font size mid-read could leave scrolling paced to the old layout, with the highlight drifting off screen until you reopened the window. Fixed: Tellie now remaps your script the moment a resize settles.
  • Tidier read-line highlight. Stray highlight boxes no longer linger in the script, and turning the highlight off actually clears it.
  • No more stuck scrolls. After a script got shorter on screen, play and Voice Follow could look unresponsive at the end of the script. Fixed.

1.4.6

Open Apple Pages files, paste from the clipboard, and right-click the prompter

  • Open Apple Pages files. Pick a .pages document and Tellie reads it through Pages and loads it like any other script, the same as a Word doc, PDF, or Markdown file. Works with the new Pages and the previous one.
  • Paste a script with ⌘V. Copy text in any app, click the notch, and press ⌘V to load it straight into Tellie. Markdown headings and bold come through.
  • Right-click the prompter for the menu. Right-click or Control-click anywhere on the expanded prompter to reach Settings, the Pulse Log, and the rest. Handy when the menu bar is hidden behind the notch.
Inspired byCConrad GempfLondonsuggested every improvement in this release
1.4.5

Presenter Mode now works with the new Keynote

  • Keynote 15 support. The latest Keynote ("Keynote Creator Studio") ships as a separate app that Presenter Mode didn't recognize, so your speaker notes wouldn't appear in the notch. Tellie now reads notes from both the new Keynote and the previous one.
1.4.4

A Keynote presenter fix, plus Pulse Log and polish

  • Presenter Mode + Keynote. Now reliably reads your Keynote speaker notes into the notch as you present. (Fixes a permissions issue that could block Keynote access.)
  • Pulse Log. Shows which Mac or person each entry came from, so a teammate's agent reads distinctly from your own.
  • Refreshed welcome and About screens, plus notch polish.
1.4.3

Groundwork for watching your agents and tools from the notch, plus polish

  • Fleet feed. If you run agents or scripts across more than one Mac, Tellie can now gather them into one notch, with no setup and nothing to host.
  • Origin labels. The roster shows where each line came from (which agent, and which machine or person), so a busy notch stays readable.
  • Assorted polish and stability.
1.4.2

A polish and reliability release

  • Send to Tellie now points you to enable Accessibility when it's off, instead of quietly doing nothing.
  • Presenter Mode tells you when it needs permission to read Keynote, with a one-click path to fix it.
  • The Voice Follow language flag moved to the top-left, so it no longer overlaps the window controls (and stops covering the first words in right-to-left scripts like Hebrew).
  • New installs now default to a clean sans-serif font, the classic teleprompter look. Your own font setting is unchanged.
  • Clearer feedback when a playlist entry, a sent file, or a link can't be opened.
  • Assorted polish and stability.
1.4.1

Meet Tellie Pulse, your silent second screen

Tellie 1.4 quietly grew into much more than a teleprompter. Here's what has been hiding in there, plus this release's fixes.

Meet Tellie Pulse, your silent second screen. Send anything to your notch and a quiet strip drops down to show you what happened: your Send to Tellie shortcut, your Keynote notes, your terminal, your AI agents. Glance up to see it, click to read it. Invisible to Zoom and screen recordings, so only you can see it.

Send to Tellie. Select text in any app, press Control + Option + Command + T, and it lands in your notch.

Presenter Mode (Pro). Your Keynote speaker notes appear in the notch as you present, and advance as you speak. Look at your audience, not down at a second screen.

Pulse Log (Pro). A private history of everything sent to Tellie, kept on your Mac.

Fixed in this release

  • Short source names (like "CI") stay put instead of sliding off the roster.
  • Source icons are now color-coded so you can tell them apart at a glance.
  • The Pulse Log appears in the menu for Pro users who have history.
  • New windows open at 80% opacity, so you can tell Tellie is there without it covering your screen.
  • Assorted polish and stability.
1.4.0

A smoother notch and a cleaner first run

  • Smoother notch open and close, with a quick hover-to-peek.
  • Refreshed welcome and first-run experience.
  • Reliability and performance improvements throughout.

Thank you for using Tellie.

1.3.1

Send to Tellie from anywhere. The silent second screen

Tellie 1.3.1 turns the notch into a parking spot for content you want to read later. Send a sentence, a doc, a quote from any app; Tellie holds it until you glance up.

  • Send to Tellie. Select text in any app, press ⌃⌥⌘T, and it lands in Tellie's notch. The silent second screen, anywhere on your Mac.
  • Word docs. Open .docx files directly. No save-as-plain-text detour.
  • The notch grows when content arrives. Dynamic Island animation, so it's obvious when something just landed.
  • Cleaner read line. A background highlight on the current word instead of an underline. Easier to track at a glance.
  • Polish. Voice Follow plays nicely when Siri is off (and respects when you turn it off). Open Script no longer hides behind other apps. A handful of smaller fixes.
1.3.0

Tellie Pro is here. You're already on it

Tellie now has a paid Pro tier. Because you've been here since the early days, every Pro feature is yours, free, forever. The app figured this out automatically.

  • Pro Early Adopter. Open Settings → License and you'll see the green Early Adopter badge. No license key to enter, no purchase, no recurring charge. All Voice Follow scrolling, multi-take rewind, playlists, per-script memory, and the resizable detached prompter stay yours.
  • Voice Follow keeps listening when you open the menu bar. Previously, glancing at the menubar during a take would silently pause Voice Follow and drop you into plain auto-scroll. Now it stays engaged.
  • Settings rebuilt. Sections regrouped (Voice Follow as a dedicated card, Playback, Appearance, Window, Privacy, License). A Keyboard Shortcuts link moved into the License section's footer so it's findable without hunting through Help.
  • Welcome flow refresh. The first-launch wizard now includes a one-time Voice Follow demo so you can try the headline feature even before deciding about Pro. Existing users won't see it; it's only shown to fresh installs.
  • License management. If you ever do want to buy a separate license (gift one, use Tellie on a machine that isn't grandfathered, etc.), Settings → License has the entry field, activation, and a Deactivate-this-Mac button. Up to 3 Macs per license.

1.2.4

Polish, plus one real fix from Sprague

A handful of refinements from actors testing Tellie, plus a behavior fix for a quiet support thread with a real bug behind it.

  • Tellie opens when you double-click it. Before, if Tellie was already running in the menu bar (which is always, since it's a menu-bar app), double-clicking the .app icon did nothing visible. Now the prompter expands. Filed from a support thread with Sprague Theobald, who tried to relaunch Tellie, saw nothing happen, and emailed to ask if it was broken.
  • Pick a font. Settings → Appearance → Font: Serif (default, no change), Sans-serif (Helvetica, the traditional teleprompter look), or OpenDyslexic for accessibility. ALL CAPS is now its own toggle that doesn't secretly swap your font.
  • Smarter chrome at narrow widths. The control bar at the bottom of the prompter used to disappear all at once when you shrunk the detached prompter horizontally. Now it sheds buttons one tier at a time as you drag narrower (labels first, then A+/A- and close, then the speed slider, then the rest). Play/pause and the mic stay reachable as long as possible.
  • Speed slider dims when voice follow is driving. In word-tracking mode the matcher sets your scroll speed (it's how fast you talk), so the slider does nothing. It now visibly dims in that state to make the disconnect obvious.
  • Reset Window Size works in detached mode. Previously it sometimes left the window at an in-between size after the animation got interrupted. Fixed.
  • Refreshed welcome tour. The walkthrough script (Menu bar icon → Show Welcome…) is now split into a Free half and a Pro half with a clear "that's all, folks" break, so the demo works whether or not you're using Pro features.

1.2.3

Built for actors. Useful for everyone

Most of the changes in this release came from feedback from Andrew P., an actor who uses Tellie for virtual auditions.

  • PDF support. Open audition sides and any other PDF script directly. Tellie extracts the text and uses font size to mark larger lines as section headings, so Tab and 1-9 still let you jump between scenes.
  • Detach the prompter from the notch. Click the new pop-out icon in the upper-right of the prompter to float it anywhere on any screen, including a second monitor. A slim title bar appears with a re-pin icon. Drag to position, resize from any edge, click the pin (or collapse the prompter) to snap back to the notch. Useful for actors looking at a scene partner's Zoom window instead of the camera.
  • Opacity all the way down to 10%. The transparency slider used to bottom out at 60%. Now it goes to 10% so you can leave the script as a faint wisp over a Zoom partner's face while keeping real eye contact.
  • Recordable mode. Want to demo Tellie for a tutorial or share a screenshot on social? Settings → Privacy → "Make Tellie visible in recordings (this session)". Confirm inline, an orange eye icon in the prompter reminds you it's on, one click hides Tellie again. Resets every time you quit, so a forgotten toggle can't leak a script in tomorrow's real meeting.

1.2.2

Peek what's coming up next

  • New shortcut: tap ` (backtick) to peek the next section. Glance at what's coming without losing your place. The script doesn't move; the next section's name just flashes briefly on the right side of the prompter. Works for Markdown scripts with # or ## headings. Plays nicely with the existing Tab / ⇧Tab jumps and the 1–9 direct jumps.
1.2.1

Two small polish fixes

  • Hotkeys now respect the prompter being hidden. ⌘⇧P (play/pause) and ⌘⇧R (scroll to top) used to silently fire when the prompter was collapsed in the notch, they read as "the hotkey didn't work." Both now no-op when the prompter is hidden, and the corresponding menu items grey out. ⌘⇧E still expands as expected.
  • Opening a script auto-shows the prompter. Picking a file from Open Script…, Recent Scripts, or a folder playlist now expands the prompter automatically. Earlier 1.2.0 would load the script silently into a hidden window.
1.2.0

The biggest Tellie release yet

Six new things, all built around staying in flow while you read.

  • Multi-take rewind. Flubbed a sentence? Press ⇧R. Tellie rewinds to the start of the previous sentence, without stopping playback or resetting the timer.
  • Section navigation. Markdown # headings are now anchors. Press Tab / ⇧Tab to walk through them, or 1–9 to jump straight to a numbered section.
  • Voice-follow language picker. ~50 languages, all on-device. Settings → Voice follow → Language. macOS may download a one-time model the first time you pick a new language; your voice still never leaves the Mac.
  • Resizable prompter window. Drag any edge of the expanded prompter. Drag short for a thin reading strip, single-line view that takes almost no screen space. Reset from the menu bar any time.
  • About panel + open-source credits. Menu bar icon → About Tellie. Lists Sparkle and the rest of the third-party libraries Tellie ships with.
  • Refreshed onboarding + Help. The Welcome wizard is now a hands-on tutorial that introduces every feature as you read it aloud. The Help window has been rewritten to match.

Plus a tagline: The Mac teleprompter that listens.

Tellie 1.1Onboarding and auto-updateMay 2026 · 4 releases
1.1.3

One small layout fix

  • The speed slider no longer jumps when you reach the end of a script. Earlier 1.1.x releases would clear the time-remaining display at 0:00, which collapsed the layout next to the slider, now the time display stays on screen.
1.1.2

Two small bug fixes

  • The notch widget now stays docked. Earlier 1.1.x releases would leave Tellie floating mid-screen if you changed display resolution or plugged in / unplugged an external monitor. It now re-anchors itself to the top center every time the screen geometry changes.
  • The speed slider stops shifting as the words counter grows from one digit to two to three. Same kind of layout-stability fix as the play/pause shift in 1.1.0, just for digit growth this time.
1.1.1

A voice-mode default fix, plus small polish

  • Voice follow now defaults to "Track my words" on a fresh install, earlier 1.1.0 first-runs would scroll at slider speed even when the wizard told you the script would follow your voice.
  • New global hotkey: ⌘⇧M toggles voice follow (when it's enabled in Settings). Joins the existing ⌘⇧E / ⌘⇧P / ⌘⇧R set.
  • Settings panel cleanup: clearer voice-mode descriptions, a less jargon-y per-script reset button, and a few power-user buttons removed from places they didn't belong.
1.1.0

Onboarding, auto-update, and voice polish

The first feature release after the 1.0.x mic-permissions fixes. Three things you'll notice:

  • New onboarding wizard, first launch walks you through finding Tellie in the menubar, granting voice permissions, and trying a sample script. Re-openable any time from the menubar's "Show Welcome…" item.
  • Auto-update, Tellie now checks for new versions on its own. From this release forward, you'll just get an upgrade prompt when there's something new. Manual check via "Check for Updates…" in the menu.
  • Voice follow starts where you're reading, turning on voice follow no longer jumps the script to the top. Scroll to wherever you want to begin, then click the mic.

Plus: the speed slider stops jumping when you play/pause, the live pace report on pause is now optional (Settings → Playback), and the in-app help has been refreshed for current behavior.

The mic fix for Sonoma and Sequoia

  • Adds the Hardened Runtime audio-input entitlement so the system mic prompt actually appears on macOS 14 / 15.
  • Voice follow now works end-to-end on a fresh install, earlier 1.0.x releases silently failed to ask for permission.
  • Several UI polish fixes around the Settings panel and voice-follow status display.
